Baby Bottle

This card is a combination of three different challenges: retrosketches, Stampin' Royalty and The Paper Players.  I have no idea where I bought these stamps from or what brand they are but I've had them for several years.  I think it was one of the first sets of clear stamps that I ever purchased.  I just rediscovered the stamp set and I think I only used it once and I never touched these two particular stamps so I needed to break them in.  I am on a clean and simple card making kick and I think that this card is a perfect addition to my stash.

Smile!

When I went to Hawaii in June I discovered this super cute monster at Ace Hardware/ Ben Franklin Crafts.  It amazed me that the hardware store had about five aisles that were well stocked with crafty goodies that I couldn't even find in Colorado.  I have named the little guy Sully Jr. because  after I made this card I walked downstairs to find my husband and he was watching Monsters Inc. and I ended up watching the remainder of the movie with him.  While I was making the card I was so tempted to put purple spots instead of black but then I would have abandoned the challenge.  This stamp also comes with an extra hand stamp to allow him to hold the sign.  I thought that was so clever.  For the spots, I used the eyes of the owl punch.

Wedding Cake

For this Freshly Made Sketch I had a really had a hard time trying to figure out what should go in a semi-circle.  After taking several long stares at my stamp sets I finally settled on the wedding cake.  I thought this would be a good opportunity to use some materials that haven't been touched in a while.

Bloomin' Marvelous

For this card I used the sketch from Our Creative Corner: Gettin' Sketchy and the color inspiration from the colourQ.  I knew I wanted to do a floral card but it took me a couple days to actually sit down and create.  Once I found this sketch, it all took off from there.  I feel like I incorporated a little of everything in an attempt to accurately follow the sketch.  There is DSP (from two different sets), Framelits, dry embossing, butterfly punch, stamping, twine, bling...

Red

This week I finally committed to creating a card for the CASology challenge which is RED this week.  I was able to use a bunch of goodies that have been neglected lately like this butterfly stamp and embossing folder.  It seems like I have some go-to embossing folders like the dots and zig-zag.

Triple Layer Cake

When I saw the colors on the Stampin' Royalty Challenge I decided I wanted to make a birthday card.  The colors just look so fun and makes me want to party!  While making the cake I thought this would be a great opportunity to take advantage of the challenge from Party Time Tuesdays and have a triple layer cake since the challenge is to use three of something.  I incorporated three layers of cake and three brads on the bottom.

The most difficult part of creating this card was when I decided to bling out the bottom layer of cake.  At first my basic jewels were fitting perfectly with the polka dots on the cake.  There is one large dot that I didn't really have the right size jewel for.  I pulled out the large rhinestones and placed it on there.  It looked like my cake had a shiny zit of something, all you could do was stare at it...  I finally decided against it and removed the ridiculous rhinestone.  I then decided a little heart might cover up the dot.  I punched out a heart from the owl punch only to find that the heart is not big enough.  Looking at the punch, the eyeball of the owl looked like it may work so I punched out an eyeball, it fit perfectly!  My cake looks a bit gaudy but not as bad as when it had the giant bling.

Celebrate

This weeks Still addINKtive challenge is to use some of the Sale-a-Bration stamp sets.  Out of the three listed this week, I only have the Feeling Sentimental set.  I decided to go for a classic, neutral, clean and simple look.  I thought the black and tan (crumb cake) would give an old school vibe with an old school bike image.  I happened to have punched out the little heart from the owl punch for another project and didn't use it and it was just laying there on my table so I added it to the card for a little pop of color.  I think it is my favorite part of the card, because my neutral, clean and simple look literally looks simple and neutral and boring.  For some reason the challenges from still addINKtive are very challenging for me and I am not getting into the swing and letting the creative juices flow...

Wish Big Jordan!

I really like the concept of the Seize the Birthday challenge.  In a nutshell, they create one sketch and the first week we are to design a feminine birthday card and the second week a masculine birthday card so you can have a well stocked supply of birthday cards.  Coming up is my friend Jordan's birthday (a dude).  For some reason I can never remember when it is.  It's written on my birthday calendar, in my phone, friends remind me etc. and I usually still miss an opportunity to say "Happy Birthday."  So, this year I made his card on time and I plan to mail it to him TODAY!

I was making cards last night and I yelled "Happy Birthday" when he called and he was sooooo confused.  I told him my thought process and he just cracked up and replied "at least you got the right month."

This is my take of the sketch.  It's very clean and simple and manly!

You Light Up My Life

I have finally used my Silhouette!  I love the endless possibilities that my Silhouette offers but I often feel overwhelmed and resort to just stamping.  For this card I incorporated both the Silhouette and stamping.  I used the Silhouette to cut out the super cute lightbulb and I opted to just type out my corny but cute sentiment on cardstock.  I thought the zig-zag embossing would be an "electric" effect and then continued with the chevron/zig-zag hearts.  I hope this card will "brighten" someones day!!!

Supplies Used:
Stamp: Hearts a Flutter (Stampin' Up!)
Cardstock: Basic Gray, Midnight Muse, Summer Starfruit, Primrose Petals (Stampin' Up!)

Love Always

A few nights ago I was scoping out blog challenges in bed.  My hubby has been sick and was in and out of conversation.  At one point he looked up and said "Nice card!" while looking at the swatch for the Color Throwdown challenge this week.  My response was "It's a door!" because I couldn't believe what he had just said.  Once he looked closer, he saw the door.  It was soooooo funny.  Now, anytime he sees a nice card he says "Nice door!"

I have a habit of only using the same stamps from each stamp set that I purchase.  Today I wanted to use stamps that I had never used before. I stamped the love and always stamps from the Affection Collection set.  Of course, my always sentiment left a blemish so I punched out a hear from the Owl Punch to cover it up.  I used the heart from the Best of Love stamp set.  I stamped the image with Pink Pirouette ink on Pink Pirouette cardstock but you could hardly see the image so I re-inked in Riding Hood Red.  You could definitely see that better.  After I cut out the red heart I decided to cut out the pink heart as well, it seemed a shame to let it go to waste.  Of course, it was missing the bottom half of the heart because I was using the same piece of paper for both hearts.  I was able to cover it up and I think it looks okay.

Oh Happy Day

As soon as I saw the challenge at still addINKtive for the week I immediately thought baby boy.  Of course, it was more difficult than I thought it would be to put it all together.  After a bunch of different shapes and different colors in different places this is what I came up with.  I tried to incorporate the bow in a few different places and styles but it just didn't look right.  I tried to use an oval shape and it kept interfering with my crib.  So, this is the end result.

Stampin' Up! Supplies:
Stamp: Little Additions, Bloomin' Marvelous
Cardstock: Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Bashful Blue, Whisper White
Ink: Bashful Blue, Early Espresso
Framelits: Labels Collection

Sent With Love

Today was a very stressful day at work.  All I wanted to do when I got home was not think about work.  Conveniently I had a Stampin' Up! box of goodies waiting for me when I got home.  Since my hubby was sleeping when I got home (because he works nights now and we are both not quite adjusted yet) I decided to break in the goods.

I knew I wanted the Sent With Love stamp set as soon as I saw it.  I got the bundle and knew exactly what I wanted to make when I saw it.  I had scoped out some blog challenges the other night and it all popped into my head once I had the stamp set in my hand.  When I realized that the Sent With Love DSP was pretty similar to the spring colors in the PPA Color Challenge I decided to wing it and use Primrose Petals instead of Calypso Coral and it all came together.

Follow your heart...

For this card I combined the Color Throwdown color inspiration and the Mojo Monday sketch.  With Valentine's Day coming up I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to use up some of my lovely DSP.  I snipped out the heart shape from the More Amore DSP, it was a little bigger that I was expecting but I think it worked out okay and the rest of the pieces fell into place.
